Singer, songwriter, and producer Austin Alvarez combines honest and direct lyricism with pop melodies, retro synths, and moody production. A 2015 SXSW featured artist and performer, his unique perspective and genre bending sound is a standout in the pop landscape.
Austin was born and raised in Houston, Texas where he began acting and singing in theatre and talent shows as a child. With a flare for creativity, he was often writing, sewing costumes, and delving into makeup. Austin grew up with diverse influences ranging from Queen and Janet Jackson to Beyoncé, Alicia Keys, and Robyn, inspiring his eclectic sound. At age 14, Austin began training classically on piano. This was his gateway into music production and songwriting. As a young, queer person processing who he was, music became his sanctuary and outlet. Age 18 marked Austin’s coming out as well as his start to creating original music full time.
Over the next few years, Austin self-released several projects, as well as performed in and around Texas. In 2013, Austin was featured on American Idol, where he placed amongst the final 35 men from 75,000 individuals who auditioned. He followed this with a 2015 featured artist showcase at the SXSW Festival in Austin, Texas.
His new original EP titled “Shadow Verses,” released on 02/19/2021, is streaming everywhere. The four track EP explores self-reflective themes combined with moody and atmospheric electro-pop elements and retro synths...80’s horror meets alternative synth pop.
